Google’s Mike Werner Joins ChemFORWARD Advisory Board, Lending Technical, Industry, and Circular Economy Perspective

ChemFORWARD is pleased to announce that Michael Werner, lead for Circular Economy at Google, will join ChemFORWARD’s advisory board. Werner contributes rich experience with the technology industry, chemical hazard assessment, and circular economy to ChemFORWARD’S mission of enabling a safe, circular, and more equitable economy.

Werner’s mission at Google is to eliminate toxic chemicals from consumer products and drive higher environmental performance and sustainability of product design. Previously at Google, he led the product sustainability, biocompatibility, and environmental compliance team for Google’s consumer hardware division.

Werner has worked in green building and product design for more than 14 years, including with William McDonough, a founder of the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute. He has advised the Green Science Policy Institute and U.S. government agencies, including the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and National Institute of Building Sciences, on sustainability. In past roles, he has led safer chemistry and biocompatibility initiatives at Apple and was senior sustainability engineer at Haworth Inc. He is a director of the Healthy Building Network.

"I am honored and thrilled to join the board in this important global and cross-sectoral work in creating the globally harmonized chemical hazard dataset,” Werner said. “Let's make 2020 all about bringing our big dreams for this movement to life!"

Werner joins the ChemFORWARD Advisory Board as Robin Bass, team lead for Google’s Real Estate & Workplace Services at Google, ends her term.

“Mike brings such a unique mix of expertise, experience, and vision. His participation will have an enormous influence on the coming stages of ChemFORWARD’S growth,” said Stacy Glass, Chemforward’s Executive Director. “Robin’s vision, passion, and energy are unmatched and we would not be here today without her. We thank her for her years of service and look forward to continuing our work with the Google REWS team to unlock chemical optimization in the built environment. ”
