Heine Named Vice President of Association for the Advancement of Alternatives Assessment

Congratulations to Dr. Lauren Heine, ChemFORWARD’s director of safer materials and data integrity, for being selected to be vice president of the Association for the Advancement of Alternatives Assessment. She also serves as co-chair of the organization’s program committee.

In this role, Heine will help guide the professional association dedicated to advancing the science, practice, and policy of alternatives assessment and informed substitution. The Lowell, a Massachusetts-based organization, known as A4, is an interdisciplinary community of researchers and practitioners from government agencies, academia, industry, and non-profits working collaboratively to accelerate the transition to the use of safer chemicals, materials, processes, and products.

In her previous contributions to safer chemistry and alternatives, Heine has worked with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development,  the California Green Ribbon Science Panel, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Design for the Environment Safer Choice and Alternatives Assessment programs, the Interstate Chemicals Clearinghouse Alternatives Assessment Guide and the Washington Alternatives Assessment Guide. Heine has also developed enduring programs such as GreenScreen® for Safer Chemicals and CleanGredients™. Before joining ChemFORWARD in 2019, she was executive director of Northwest Green Chemistry, where she remains an advisor.

Heine co-chairs the Apple Green Chemistry Advisory Board, which helps integrate green chemistry into Apple’s products and supply chain. She was a member of the American Chemical Society’s Green Chemistry Institute Advisory Board for nine years. She has also served as adjunct faculty in the Center for Engineering Design & Entrepreneurship at Gonzaga University.

ChemFORWARD is proud to share its support and resources to the advancement of best practices and collaborative efforts in the areas of safer chemistry, human and environmental health, and enabling a circular economy.
