November 3rd Webinar Recap

Tools to Accelerate Adoption of Safe and Sustainable Chemistry webinar in conjunction with ChemSec and Apple.

On November 3rd ChemFORWARD was part of the Resources and Tools to Accelerate Adoption of Safe and Sustainable Chemistry webinar in conjunction with ChemSec and Apple.

The goal of this webinar was to help drive change to sustainable chemistry and introduce a suite of tools and collaborative efforts across organizations. Tools featured included ChemCoach, ChemFORWARD, and ChemSec Marketplace.

An exciting new tool, ChemCoach, was developed by Apple and ChemSec Business Group to identify, phase out, replace, and avoid Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) in consumer products and the supply chain. EDCs have known negative impacts of the endocrine system, yet these chemicals remain present in a wide variety of everyday products. Since many of these substances are not legally restricted as are other hazardous accounts, companies themselves are left to choose to apply a higher chemical standard to operations to manage EDCs. ChemCoach is a terrific tool to help identify high hazardous chemicals and push people toward safer substitution.

Lauren Heine, Co-Founder & Director of Science & Data Integrity, had the opportunity to present on behalf of ChemFORWARD and shared the organization’s mission and goals. As she stated, ChemFORWARD’s strives to help find safer alternatives for brands, retailers, and manufacturers as well as help them transition to safer chemicals based on the best science available. In addition, ChemFORWARD wants to help suppliers of chemicals market their safer alternatives. To accomplish this, trust must be built in the quality of the chemical assessments available. ChemFORWARD’s broad access to chemical hazard data can do just that.

ChemSec Marketplace, a platform which gathers green chemistry innovations in one place, making it easier for companies to choose safer solutions and search advertisements of safer alternatives and connect with suppliers. ChemSec is an independent non-profit organisation that advocates for substitution of toxic chemicals to safer alternatives.

“We all see as an end game a world where we are using proactive design. Rather than undoing and remaking products, we can choose green building blocks from the start,” Lauren Heine, ChemFORWARD.
